Separate Worlds paintings

Images in the news affect us. Some images may repeat and become ingrained in one's memory, while others may fade or linger in the subconscious. It is easy to forget important situations from yesterday when we are constantly bombarded with new images and impressions.

The paintings are "post-digital collages" based on news themes related to social inequalities. Ideas are first digitally collaged and then expressed on canvas through painting. The canvas pieces are sewn together and connected with zippers. Elements from graphic design such as photography, typography and infographics are used to illustrate messages. The topics cover a range from subtle underlying messages to direct elaboration on themes such as migration and unemployment in Europe, as well as social meeting points.
There are several paintings in the exhibit with the theme "Separate Worlds," highlighting how we each live in our own distinct worlds. The factors that create differences between us can be experienced differently and in this lies an uncertainty.
Seams and zips help to connect the various "worlds", while the experience of the segmented is enhanced by the fact that each world is a separate unit on its own "sheet" of canvas.
